Although obviously the book features experiences at sea, there are also many very interesting stories about the different countries that were visited.

Many readers find this a ‘can’t put it down’ book and no doubt the accounts of personal experiences on some of the ships - and ashore - are the main reason for this.

badgeEveryone has special favourites, I am sure, but mine is the account of the posting on the SS Nordyls to Canada with the mouth-watering description of the ice-cream sundaes in Halifax, Nova Scotia. A rare delight to someone fresh from war-time Britain with its food rationing and severe shortages of fruit - especially bananas.
